Choosing Peace in a Divided World

Lately, I’ve seen quite a few negative conversations surrounding the Walk for Peace monks who are traveling across our country. After witnessing this journey firsthand, I feel compelled to share my perspective.
This walk is not political, and it is not rooted in religious agendas. It is a walk with a simple yet powerful purpose: to bring peace, kindness, and unity into a world that often feels overwhelmed by anger, division, and negativity.
As these monks enter each town along their journey, something remarkable happens. People step outside of their homes and businesses. Cars slow down or stop. Strangers pause their busy lives to offer water, food, encouragement, or a moment of silent support. There are no arguments or labels in those moments—only shared humanity. That, in itself, speaks volumes.
Their mission is not about persuading or convincing, but about reminding us what kindness looks like in action. For brief moments, differences are set aside, and people come together in support of something greater than themselves. Many of us were blessed to witness and participate in a truly meaningful and historic moment—one centered on spreading love and peace.
For those who instinctively search for negativity, I gently encourage taking time for reflection and prayer. Scripture reminds us of the importance of kindness, compassion, and loving our neighbors. When we truly listen to the message being shared by these men, it becomes very clear.
The message is peace. The message is love.
I will never apologize for wanting a world filled with more of both.
Each of us is entitled to our own beliefs and perspectives, but we are all responsible for how we treat one another. My hope—and my prayer—is that we choose compassion over judgment, empathy over division, and kindness in a world that desperately needs it.
“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”— Romans 12:18
